WhiteBridge: Cavalry

组 1.png

Background

Before Wilt founded the Whitebridge, human beings lived in some harsh environments, such as the lava lode in the southernmost part of the Midworld, where the billowing smoke obscured the sky and only the most stubborn plants and animals were strong enough to live in here. People in here developed the alchemy, to change the lava into the drinking water and hunt the most powerful and tenacious beasts in the leylines for food, of course this includes dragons. Another area with harsh conditions is the northernmost region of the eastern world. During summer, people can grow crops, and then consume it in winter. The summer environment is s high as gold.

Playtest Notes

(use this guide for every playtest of the game you play, even when you play solo. Copy and paste the guide and include one for every playtest)

Players’ Names Jack Wang and Mike Wu

Play time (minutes, turns if applicable) 10m

Findings (details about interesting moments)

Many skills cannot be used due to the card numbers and the game is usually finished within couple of minutes. Active skills become less effective because they consume one turn to use it, and the opponent's two turns of play yield more than the skill. The game is design for Two player and each player have 17 cards; therefore the game often takes about 10 turns to end the game, which leaves a little space for the player to play their skills, since they have to skip their round onced they used their skilled.

Thoughts

Areas that could be improved (conclusion)

This problem can be solved by increasing the number of cards?

Suggested improvements (from testers, at least one, including reasons for improvements as well)

Version 2.0

Set-up:

Each player choose a character card

Both players will draw 17 cards and place the remaining 17 cards in the center of the card pool.

After the above two-step preparations are completed, each players can freely decide the order by dice or rock-paper-scissors

Whoever goes first can start a "duel" against his opponent

"The duel is divided into the following steps"

Steps: 1. The duel initiator will start the first round, which determine the card-playing mode

the card-playing mode

. . .

During your play phase, you can play cards in the following modes:

In your first round can choose these following mode:

a single card

Two cards with the same number

Three cards of the same number and different suit with any card attached

Four cards with the same number but different suits

Or five or more consecutive numbers of cards of any suit

The card playing mode is determined by the card playing phase of the initial round. The subsequent rounds need to play cards according to the mode of the card playing phase of the initial round. In each duel round, you must play cards according to the same mode, and the card number must be larger than the first round.

After both sides have no cards that match this mode, the duel round ends. The player who played the cards in the last round wins” round

The winner of each duel round is credited with a small point

Skills: Each character card has a skill , which players can use once in their playing stage. Skills are divided into active and passive. Active skills can be used in each playing stage, while passive skills are being active all the time.

Game ending conditions: When both players consume all their cards, the player with the highest score wins.

Using card to prototype

Card Concept Design

A - The second biggest card in the card pool. Represent the god of war, the source disease, disaster, hatred, jealous, and irrational sense

2 - the biggest card in the card pool represent the most powerful god, the creator of everything.

3 -  the smallest card in the game, therefore I draw this card with a ordinary soldier. When I was designing the card, I was thinking  of the soldiers in the Middle Ages, Game of Thrones and the witcher. With a round helmet, a double. The eyes have been covered with shadows to lower down the personal identity and focusing on the sense of ordinary and universality.

4 - this number kind of means death - in Chinese language - therefore I set the image into a Skull, giving the player a sense of death, with a spiral sword, and a sickle, symbol of the reaper.

5 - this number in china contains lots of meaning, success, happiness, fame..etc Speaking in a native way, can be represent by a tai chi' s diagram. I think this is a good way to represent the meaning of number 5, drawing a tai chi's diagram composied by two dragon. Through this diagram, represent the concept of the combination of positive and negative.

6 - When I was thinking about number 6 I thought about the universe, fair, delicate, baroque style and balance. Motivated by those ideas, I made it into a Libra, with some baroque embellishment, to shape a sense of balancing, which is the universal truth that I believed in. The background is a clock. The clock is to reinforce the sense of universe and a sense of inevitable.

7 - I want to represent a sense of resting. Considering the background of the game, I draw a guy’s hand with a broken weapon, to create a sense of tragic, warlike.

8 - Numbers that represent balance, infinite, and symmetric. I made this card in a pretty scientific way snese , because those keywords all remind me about physics. The inspiration is the atom. In fact, I draw the atom in a very baroque style, with the perfect circle surrounding the moving stable electrons and protons inside.

9 -  In poker it is a scary card with extraordinary power. The inspiration of the card is Mommy, giant spider, and also a sense of blinding. The card is showing a power god-like creature covering a prisoner’s view. Plus the consideration of the background story. The story is about human beings fighting against other species, so I think it is a cool idea to put a dishuman-like creature covering a human’s eyes, meaning this dishuman-like creature has more power than a human being. However, this is not the biggest card. I feel it will be fun to show the character’s power by the number of the cards.

10 - The card that represents the King, one of the most powerful humans in the background story.

11 - The wizard, with great knowledge, power, and fame.

12 - The queen card represents the most powerful human on this land. The spiritual leader of human beings.
